Practice Your Drishti Anywhere!

Now available on the Yoga One Channel!

Each month our teachers get together to explore our studio theme. The theme is a teaching focus in the classroom and a way to bring yoga methodology to life for the rest of the business.

Enjoy this special 30-minute practice with Michelle and Yoga One teachers focusing on Drishti, the first of five pillars of the Baptiste Methodology.

You'll need several items to place around your mat (like yoga blocks or a water bottle and towel) to be your focal points. Then, experience the power of setting your focus in each and every pose you're in!

Set your drishti, find your keys! Set your drishti, find your ease.

Have you ever been looking for your keys and you finally realize that you have them in your hand?

Or looking for your sunglasses and eventually discover they are ON YOUR HEAD?

This happens to me when I am hurrying. This happens to me when I feel like I have more to do than I can get done in time. Do you know what else happens to me when I feel rushed or overwhelmed? I spill my smoothie. I stub my toe. I accidentally kick the dog. OOPS.

For several years I actually worried that I had some undiscovered disease or possibly a brain tumor. I was often dizzy. I had trouble remembering where I was going and what I was doing. My hands were not cooperating with my brain. I broke a drinking glass about once a week getting ready in the morning.

Spending time worrying over my condition, left me feeling nervous and restless. I thought about it so much, I finally decided to do something about it. Because...“Do the thing and you will have the power.”

First I slowed down my mornings....

Drishti, The Human Superpower

When I ask people what superpower they would like to have, they most often answer with flying, teleportation, or some version of super strength, speed, or intellect. Honestly, those top my personal wish list as well.

Something interesting happens when I ask someone if they would prefer a superpower that makes it easier to get what they want.

Eyes widen. A sincere “huh!” usually erupts and people add this one to their list.

As it goes, this is one of the powers that we already have as humans, although it often goes unexamined. Because it’s a power that is largely uncultivated, it also gets exploited, often to the detriment of our sense of sanity and our wallets

This superpower is our ability to choose where our attention goes.

In Baptiste Power Yoga, we have a saying that “where your attention goes, energy flows.”

The idea is that what you focus on expands. Put your attention on your savings account regularly and it will start to grow. Focus...

Mindful Moments: Soul

As we embrace the new year, Yoga One embarks on Mindful Moments. On and off the mat, we encourage you to take moments each day and incorporate a dose of mindfulness.  This week is all about taking care of your SOUL.

Have you ever had an experience that you have loved so much it lingers in your mind, body, and soul? An experience that brings out the best in you, fills your "cup", and makes all your 5 senses come alive. . . This experience may be as small as buying yourself flowers or as big as achieving one of your big goals.  THIS is your soul speaking to you. Lean in and listen up.

Over the past few weeks, we've discussed the importance of feeding your mind and body, however, what is equally as important is nourishing your SOUL.  Take the time to excavate the questions below and if you're feeling stuck, check these out.

Here a few prompting questions to encourage your journey to a mindful soul:

How do you nourish your soul?

What brings you joy?

What activities...

Mindful Moments: Body

During the month of December, Yoga One embarks on Mindful Moments. On and off the mat, we encourage you to take moments each day and incorporate a dose of mindfulness.  This week is all about taking care of your BODY.

Let's talk about mindfulness and movement. Marrying the two simultaneously can create harmony with both your mind and body. According to Alice G. Walton from this Forbes magazine article, "Mindfulness meditation is well-known to reduce stress and anxiety—so is moving the body. Put the two together, a new study from Penn State University reports, and the mental health benefits may be that much stronger."

Thus, during a moment of movement today, try this on for size: tap into all 5 of your senses, take a deep breath, and envision one thing you are truly grateful for.  Your body (and mind) will thank you.

Here a few prompting questions to encourage your journey to a mindful body:

How do you restore your body?

What physical...

Mindful Moments: Mind

During the month of December, Yoga One embarks on Mindful Moments. On and off the mat, we encourage you to take moments each day and incorporate a dose of mindfulness.  This week is all about taking care of your MIND.

Whether you are reading a new book or taking the time to sit down and journal, slowing your mind down is a great tool in your path to mindfulness.  Slowing down your mind can increase productivity throughout your day, relieve stress and reduce anxiety, and even create a healthier sleep cycle.

Here a few prompting questions to encourage your journey to a mindful mind:

How do  you restore your mind?

What activities provoke harmony and ease in your mind?

Make a list. What mindful moments can you bring into your mind today?

Over the next week, take the time to inquire these questions and be sure to share your experiences below!

Now, this may seem like a daunting task.. especially if you've never explored or thought about this topic.  You're not alone.  The good thing is there are so many resources to help you in your mindfulness path. Like here and here.

Here a few prompting questions to encourage your journey:

What does mindfulness look like to you? In your personal relationships? At work? When you're by yourself?

What brings you back to the present moment?

Make a list.  How do you practice mindfulness?

Over the next few weeks, we will take a deeper look at what mindfulness is and how we can incorporate mindful moments into each and every...

The Fruitful Darkness: Winter Solstice Deep Stretch

Uncategorized Nov 29, 2018

The Fruitful Darkness: Winter Solstice Deep Stretch | Dec 21 | 7pm

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and shortest day.  For myself, the night represents reflection, introspection, and reverence. A time to honor what has been, to let go of what doesn’t serve, and to connect to a place deep within where stillness can resound and wisdom can arise.

The solstice is considered a power gate in the wheel of the year. It is the marriage of heaven and earth - the longest night and the shortest day. The days following the solstice will progressively get longer and brighter with time.  The moon is a feminine symbol, universally representing the rhythm of time as it embodies her cycles.

The phases of the moon symbolize immortality and eternity, and the dark side of Nature herself. It reflects inner knowledge and the phases of man's condition on Earth.

It is the middle ground between the light of the sun and the darkness of night, and thus often...
