The Fruitful Darkness: Winter Solstice Deep Stretch

Uncategorized Nov 29, 2018

The Fruitful Darkness: Winter Solstice Deep Stretch | Dec 21 | 7pm

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and shortest day.  For myself, the night represents reflection, introspection, and reverence. A time to honor what has been, to let go of what doesn’t serve, and to connect to a place deep within where stillness can resound and wisdom can arise.

The solstice is considered a power gate in the wheel of the year. It is the marriage of heaven and earth - the longest night and the shortest day. The days following the solstice will progressively get longer and brighter with time.  The moon is a feminine symbol, universally representing the rhythm of time as it embodies her cycles.

The phases of the moon symbolize immortality and eternity, and the dark side of Nature herself. It reflects inner knowledge and the phases of man's condition on Earth.

It is the middle ground between the light of the sun and the darkness of night, and thus often represents the realm between the conscious and the unconscious.

It is a powerful time to draw your energy inwards and reflect on your past year of actions and non-actions. It's a time to plant seeds to harvest for the coming of the light. It is a time of intensity, renewal and great potential.

The Winter Solstice is a day to honor our inner tides. The tides of life, the flow of breath and the deep dark undiscovered depths of what lies in our hearts and souls. The fire of our soul lives deep down within us and it is in the stillness that we can connect most deeply to these inner flames.

Winter is a time to let the soul take rest. Planted seeds teach us patience when they hibernate and prepare for the coming of the light. The seed is still until it is ready to sprout - and you can’t rush it. The seed must follow natural timing to play its part in reaching its full potential.

During our practice on the longest night of the year, allow the slow, sure rhythm of time to enter you. If you relax and let go, things will reach their fullness without the effort of ego’s striving. This is the time to explore the inner caves that you have built and embrace the light within as the darkness holds you close.
